Sexyy Red’s former security guard wanted $81K, now she says he cost her more than $500K in stolen luxury goods
Sexyy Red’s latest court battle is turning a family celebration into another headline-making legal fight.
The rapper, born Janae Wherry, is countersuing a former security guard after claiming that more than $500,000 in jewelry, watches, charms, rings, bracelets, and designer handbags were stolen during a birthday retreat she hosted for her mother at a rented Florida mansion in January 2025. According to TMZ, Sexyy Red alleges a masked person entered the home through an unlocked door on January 12 and committed the burglary while the property was supposed to be secured. The lawsuit claims a police investigation determined a door had been left unlocked. Sexyy Red is blaming her security team, led by Carl Thompson, alleging that he was the last person to leave the mansion before the theft. She is now seeking more than $500,000 in damages.
The countersuit comes after Thompson filed his own lawsuit in August 2025, claiming he worked as Sexyy Red’s personal security guard from May 2023 until December 2024 for $180,000 a year. He alleged he was paid $204,000 but should have received $285,000. Sexyy Red denies underpaying him and is now accusing him and his team of being responsible for the alleged security lapse.
This is not the only legal matter surrounding the “Pound Town” rapper. Earlier this month, it was revealed that late producer Tay Keith had an unresolved lawsuit involving Sexyy Red’s label at the time of his death. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Tay Keith sued the label in March 2026, claiming he produced 13 songs for Sexyy Red in 2024, including “Pound Town,” and alleged he had not been paid or given revenue accounting. Attorney Dameka Davis, who represents Rebel, said the dispute was being handled at the label level, not by Sexyy personally.
“Royalty negotiations are handled by labels — not artists,” she said, adding that the parties were in the final stages of getting Tay Keith compensated before his passing.
Sexyy Red is also facing a separate $5 million lawsuit from Nicole Barnes, the grandmother of one of her children. According to Fox2Now, Barnes alleges the rapper posted her address and a photo of her Hazelwood, Missouri home on Facebook in December 2024 and encouraged fans to “kick in the door” and “conduct acts of violence” against her. Barnes’ attorney, Steven Weaver, said, “Sexxy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client.”
In June 2024, Sexyy Red was also arrested for disorderly conduct following a brawl at Newark Liberty International Airport. ABC7 reported that two men with her were arrested for assault, while two victims were treated for minor head injuries.
The burglary countersuit remains ongoing.
