Adriana Manotas Rodriguez, a Colombian content creator, died on July 10 after allegedly undergoing a cosmetic procedure. She was 52.
The influencer’s death was confirmed by her friend, Lorena Zuluaga Quintero, in a July 11 post with photos of the two of them on Facebook.
Rodriguez — who maintained a following of over 23,000 on Facebook, known for sharing lifestyle content — entered a beauty clinic around 6 a.m. and left roughly four hours later, as captured in surveillance video carried out to a van by three individuals, reported local outlets Blu Radio and Noticias Caracol. The outlets reported that she was taken to a nearby health clinic, where she later died.
Per Noticias Caracol and El País, citing Colombia’s Prosecutor’s Office, the influencer had gone to the beauty clinic to seek a liposuction procedure.
Noticias Caracol and Blu Radio, however, reported that the clinic was allegedly not registered as a healthcare facility, citing Colombia’s Health and Government Secretariats.
“If you know of any illegal or clandestine aesthetic establishment, report it,” wrote Carlos Galán, the mayor of Bogotá, in a translated post to X on July 11, though he did not directly reference Rodriguez’s death. “These places cannot continue operating or claiming lives. We have strengthened the controls, but we need you to help us report them if you know of any such place.”
On July 10, following Rodriguez’s death, Colombia’s Health Secretariat, the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police carried out a raid of the beauty clinic where she allegedly underwent her procedure, during which they found evidence that medical procedures were being conducted at the establishment, reported Blu Radio and Noticias Caracol.
The Health Secretariat said that it had inspected the establishment in November and imposed health and safety measures for the establishment and the doctor who was providing health services, neither of whom had the necessary licensing to offer health procedures, the outlets reported.
“These mandatory measures were intended to prevent risks to public health and remained in effect,” said the Health Secretariat in a statement on July 10, per Noticias Caracol. “Despite this, they were violated by the continued carrying out of illegal activities at that location.”
In the wake of Rodriguez’s death, friends, family members and fans shared tributes to the late internet personality on her Facebook page.
“You left an indelible mark on those of us whose paths crossed with yours in this life,” wrote one, sharing photos with Rodriguez. “Rest in peace, my beautiful Nana ✨️”
