Image
Openness and curiosity are important positive traits for serious musicians to have. However, saying yes to every opportunity that comes your way is a bad idea. Whether you make music full-time for your job or during every spare moment you can, you have a limited amount of resources and time as a musician. Committing your time and attention to the wrong things in music means missing out on the things that will actually make a difference in your career. The idea is that the show you’re being asked to play is sure to be filled with so many people that you’ll miss out on a huge opportunity to make new fans if you say no.   Nike Sportswear is currently in one of those sweet spots where it doesn’t have to do too much to win in the market. That’s not to say that the brand is putting forth minimal effort, but finding success in bringing back simple two-tone   Dunks   probably makes the job a bit easier in between. The latest example is the resurfacing of the “Villanova” Dunk High, which will apparently hit retail sometime this summer. The original ‘86 Be True To Your School colorway features the familiar white leather base, contrasting dark overlay execution. In this case, those overlays are Midnight Navy,  which also works the laces, branding and outsole. Priced at $110, the “Midnight Navy” (or “Villanova”) Dunk High will hit retailers sometime this summer. Keep it locked for official details in the weeks ahead. UPDATE (09/10):  Nike confirms the Villanova-esque “Midnight Navy” Dunk High will be released on Thursday, Sept. 23 for a retail price of $110 from  SNKRS  and select Nike Sportswear retailers.

Part of  Nike SB’s  current resurgence has been unexpected, but well-executed collaborations with outside entities such as the Grateful Dead and Ben & Jerry’s. Each of those projects resulted in pairs that were unorthodox and initially met with a bit of skepticism, but ultimately went on to become some of the most coveted releases in recent memory. Now, Nike SB is once again testing the limits of where it can go with the Dunk High design, this time linking up with the creators of the Japanese anime franchise Gundam for a new collection. In the past, any mention of Gundam x Nike brought us to the  Air Max 98 , which originally was released in a colorway unofficially dubbed “Gundam” due to its likeness to the RX-78-2 robot from the series. This time, it’s an official union, with a “Project Unicorn” Collection featuring two  SB Dunk High  colorways on the way. The inspiration behind the collection is  Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn , a novel within the Gundam universe. Each shoe inherit

Why Failure Is Inevitable In Your Music Career

Image
Serious musicians hate failure. This disdain was bred in most of us back when we learned how to play an instrument for the first time. There are only a few ways to correctly hold drum sticks, finger guitar chords, or belt out vocal exercises; and there are countless ways of getting things wrong. When we master our instruments and start writing songs and playing shows, failure shows up for us in a myriad of new and painful ways, like when your local alt-weekly magazine trashes your album or when no one shows up to the show you’ve been promoting for months. Failure can be excruciating. But it can also deliver huge benefits to your music career if you let it.  Failure is usually not a choice in music, but our willingness to allow it to help our careers is The vast majority of the time, failure is not something we choose or plan for in music. Failure can be anything from a song not turning out the way you wanted it to being passed over for an important opportunity in your local music sce
